Rodney Hughes, better known as DJ A-Rod was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Mobile, Alabama. The product of a large blended family, music seemed to always navigate his life. A-Rod lacked a real male figure in life and strived to be a man his sisters, mother and grandmother could depend on. From the time he could walk, he was in church. His grandmother, as the founder and pastor, instilled in him his belief in God and his desire to be successful. That passion led him through school and onto college where a chance encounter connected him with his mentor DJ Mike Fresh. Mike instantly loved Rodney’s ear for music and taught him all he knew. That ear would land him a RIAA Gold, Platinum, & Multi-Platinum Plaque from his work on Lil Baby’s album and a RIAA Certified 6x Platinum Plaque from his work on Tyga’s hit single “Taste” distributed through Empire.
A-Rod has worked behind the scenes with Brandy, Rubi Rose, Bia and ASAP Ferg, while still taking over the airwaves for stations like 97.9 The Wiz, Power 96.7 and 98.3 The Beat within the South Carolina and Georgia circuit. The DJ A-Rod Experience has caught the attention of many A-Listers including Music Mogul 50 Cent who gifted him a G-Unit Branson cognac package.
Still a man that loves his family, A-Rod resides in Savannah where he is currently a Senior in Savannah State University. When COVID hit, A-
Rod completely adapted to the times and created an IG Live series interviewing artists, authors, influencers and publicist to give his fans an insight to the latest trends and people molding the industry. With a bright smile and an unmatched ear, A-Rod is certainly a heavy weight in his city. Make sure you tune in and ride the wave.
